Well gooooood afternoon,
Holy early season Batman!!!! This has been a warm one, this pastweek it has been very much unseasonably warm, which compared to having the guides freezing on the rod

Bill with a spring land locked salmon

and not being able to feel your fingers or toes isn’t half bad. Well the water levels right are good and the temps are getting right on. This is very interesting the Salmon have
started to move in and the has been a fair amount of early season stocking. There’s been a few fish caught on streamers and nymphs and we even saw a few fish rise to B.W.O’s

The Andro is looking great and even……………we hate to say it……………but the water temps should be conducive for some goodfishing for those red eyed mothers!
Peace Out, guiding tomorrow and rolling with it. It’s alwaysinteresting to see how the season will play out.BILL    >~;}}’>

Good afternoon everybody, thank you all once again for checking in. Well this is almost it, it has come down to just days remaining. It is always a tough time of year for me, there are things in life we are just meant to do, and for me it’s fishing and guiding soon that will be over, but as winter will pass soon enough we will be back again. There are often those few who straggle in late but in all reality this will be the last week.

The Trophy Stretch of the Connecticut River in Pittsburg NH

Step Pools on the Upper Connecticut River in Pittsburg NH

This past week of fishing and guiding has been excellent there has been a fair amount of fish about and some really nice Salmon moving in, during mid-week the river was fairly vacant of anglers and lots a great spots open. This weekend was a bit busier with the opening of bird season and the end of ours that will have a tendency to draw more folks in. The fish have been beautiful this week we’ve caught quite a few Brookies that we’re in there full spawning colors,(absolutely gorgeous) only to be rivaled by our foliage. The foliage will pass this week but the Brookies and Salmon will continue. Only if our fishing season would, I know it would well much later than the would let us.
Well like they always say all good thing must come to an end, for most of the fishing in the area that’s true, but there is still Drift trips and bass fishing on the Andro and other similar trips available if any of you adventurous type are interested. Greg and I will be out all this week either fishing or guiding, we still have a few days available for guiding this week and looking forward to showing you folks some of what we know.
Thanks again folks,
Salmo Salar,   PEACE   BILL   >~;++}}’>

Good afternoon all of you and all you Patriots fans and as of right now it’s raining and the Pats are losing well it all can’t be roses and balloons and the game ain’t over yet anThe Connecticut River near our RiverEdge Cabind neither is the fishing season. Well we’ve got 2 weeks left and were going to hit it hard. This past week was a busy one there’s been a lot going on the Salmon have started moving in and filling in spots here and there. Of course they haven’t changed the water flows yet and who knows if they will by the end of the season I’m not going to hold my breath.
This past week I’ve been guiding all over, I’ve done the Andro and Conn. floats and also the trophy stretch and small streams it all fished pretty well. We caught some fish on dries on the Conn. float, there wasn’t a lot of surface activity but the fish we saw took a well presented Caddis or the Caddis emerger, and when we didn’t see fish rising we were able to catch a fair amount on wooley buggers and emergers. It was a great time.
I did find that the small streams were a little slow and I’m not sure why the water temps were very chilly in some streams that may have been the difference and in others not so much. Sometimes you just don’t know? This week coming up looks to be another busy one especially with bird season starting up I’m sure like always there will be a fair amount of folks up for their annual cast and blast.
We’ve certainly had a fair share of cool weather this week and even some well needed rain. This end of the season is looking like it may shape up into a good one the weather and temps would have a tendency to lend themselves to good salmon fishing and overall goo fishing in general. I’m looking forward to it and maybe even getting out to do some cast and blast myself ( I’m sure that’s just wishful thinking) but you never know, October 16th will be a different story.
So folks if your waiting for it, this is the time.
Well see you soon,  TIGHT LINES,
PEACE,      BILL    >~;}}’>

Good afternoon all, I hope your reading this after a long day of fishing. The time has come the end is closing in, hard to believe that summer is officially over. Well fall has come to the North country it is beautiful and we’ve had some gorgeous days recently, and today is another this time of the year the sun always feels good on your face, for we know the end is near. Only a few weeks left and that will close out our regular season. There will still be float trips and bass and pike fishing but those days will be few and far between.
The fishing has been good these past few weeks and now the night temps are dropping and the water temps are also. I’ve heard several reports of people not catching so well. And when ask the question “did you have a guide?” the answer was always the same. Most of the time it’ll make a difference. But also being able to move and be versatile can make up for a lot. We’ve been out quite a bit this past week and just having time fishing around here and there not looking for anything in particular just for what we find. We’ve been finding a few salmon moving up and some browns and brookies starting into nice fall colors. We’ve had some rain last week and some more is predicted for mid week again which will help with the flows and start to stir a few things up. We got a busy week coming up and are really looking forward to it. The Andro has been the spot for our drifts this past week but looking at the Connecticut it might a shot for this week coming up. We’ll see and as always looking forward to the adventure and not knowing whats coming up next.
See you soon and maybe we’ll do some cast and blast in the next few weeks.
Thank You and tight lines,            PEACE     BILL  >~:}}’>

Bill’s Fly Fishing Blog for September 12, 2012. The Cabins at Lopstick, Pittsburg NH

Good evening to you all, Thank you for joining in and stopping by. What a beautiful fall like day we’ve had and many also this past week, and also seems like this week up and coming.
Although we’ve had a fair amount of rain earlier last week (which was much needed) the fishing is heading right into our fall standards we’ve been seeing a few more salmon moving around and the hatches come a little earlier in the day.
If I had one word to some up last week guiding it would be “TENACITY” with some fishing situations being less than ideal I couldn’t be more content with guest I’ve had this week. The trophy stretch with good attitudes and being consistent turned some positive reinforcement, I had a an evening drift on the Andro with fluctuating water flows and slightly off color, again consistent and keeping your fly in the water yielded some beautiful fish and leaves with a true sense of satisfaction, and then there was yesterday a full day drift on the Connecticut also slightly off color changing weather patterns and some debris in the water, four days after the high water my husband in wife angling team came with a positive attitude and it paid off only because they stuck with it, we all know it’s hard to keep your head in the game when fish aren’t jumping on the hook but they kept going sinking lines with wooley buggers. We would find fish here and there with the occasional bumps in between then to top of a long day of hard fishing we see a rise( that’s all it took) two passes with an elk hair caddis and we landed a beautiful bow it was AWESOME a tricky cast between branches and a good drift landed 3 more and hooked another. That’s was the icing on the cake and made all the hard work pay off thanks to good angling and Stan’s tree.
This week is filling up fast and as always you never know where you’ll end up but it’s always an interesting ride looking forward to having you all along. I love being able to mix it up have the fun is the unknown. The leaves are changing and we all know what’s next but the fishing is timeless and spells us for with winter doldrums allows us to transport to sometimes warmer hours and thoughts of tight lines and fish on the end of the line and sometimes more often then we’d like to remember the one that got away.
Thank you, all    PEACE    TIGHT LINES     >~;””}}’>

Welcome FALL, it’s nice to see you again. All things change some for the better moving slow and effortless, guided seamless directed by unseen forces, it all gels and happens the way it’s suppose to as if we have a choice, we think we do. It is not for us but done all done before us and we are our moment it is ever so brief. We should consider ourselves lucky for even having these moments in the first place.
The weather has change this past week, we’ve had a few nights in the 40′s and after 7 p.m. the light and temps start dropping again. There was quite a few people here this weekend, although busy the few parities ‘ve had out this weekend all had success and for the most part we did avoid the majority of the crowds. The water temps are coming down and some fish are starting to show up again. We’ve hitting some on Caddis and also on Stoneflies although most times you only get one shot.
The crowds should subside tomorrow and the mid-week fishing should be good, where suppose to get some rain this week coupled with the cooler temps spells fall fishing for the North Country. We’ll see you soon and bring some fleece for the mornings and evenings.

Fly Fishing Report for the Upper Connecticut River, Lopstick Outfitters Pittsburg NH

Howdy folks, good evening one and all. Well the season is rolling along the light changes shorter everyday and the cool evenings and cooler mornings it’s a wonderful thing. Very pleasant days awesome for fishing. It’s often challenging this time of year sometimes the cool evenings come to hard and to fast and it’ll shut down the hatch it’s always a crap shoot sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. As far as a guide goes it’s only hunches and educated guess’s. And your never happy when you guess wrong. People say,and it’s awfully kind they do”That’s fishing” well that’s true but it doesn’t make me feel any better.

Well to get down to the brass tacks. Still the water is low but at least with the cooler nights and some rain the temps are coming down and the levels aren’t sinking to far out of sight. We can’t complain the fishing has still been good and as I’ve said a few times this year it’s been more like real fishing instead of just smacking the crap out of them. As for myself I can respect that. Well were looking forward to a busy fall and heading back to the Andro and getting some late season Bass in. It as always is going to be exciting, and we’ll see whats going to happen.

We have a few openings coming up next week and we’d be looking forward to seeing you all as the crowds subside especially mid-week. We be kicking it and checking out new spots.

PEACE tight lines, BILL >~}}’>

Ant Hatch on the Connecticut River / Fly Fishing Report for August 19, 2012

We spent a pleasant evening on the Connecticut River with Orvis Endorsed fly fishing guide, Greg Inglis last night. As the reporter for Lopstick, most of our fishing reports are done in the office but last night we did a report from the river! Much fun, enjoy! http://youtu.be/UBOdhBTQgqM

Good evening one and all. Welcome, it’s been a long time. Things have been busy, I’ll give you a quick wrap up. Took a vacation for a while, spent some time with the family, had a great time. I picked up a new boat, she’s really sweet and already caught plenty of fish and have some good scratches in it already.
The fishing been good as always although at times we’ve had to earn our fish but that’s respectable. The water flows are still low and the fish in some spots are seeing some pressure. We just came off a float today and worked hard and earned every fish we landed. It was pretty slow mid day and then the sun changed and ants came out and we made up for some lost time. Earlier this week we had some great luck on the hopper dropper combo and today it was the 80′s flashback going retro.
We’ll be out as always this next week and looking forward to our next set of challenges. we’ve been getting a little rain here and there, that’s been helping out starting to put more water into the system and dropping the water temps in different areas.
Hopefully well see you soon,  TIGHT LINES,        PEACE      BILL  >~;”}’>

So what can I say, my hands are bloody my neck, back and shoulders are sore and some of my gear is still wet not to mention that my truck smells of stinky wet gear, those who have passion know that smell. It’s not to bad just put the windows down first thing in the a.m. and crank the heater. As always the fishing has been fantastic and as always been all over the place and some places out of necessity. This week we had some rain and the rivers got dark and high, we’ve needed the rain it’s been a spell since we’ve had any real rain. This was a good one it put water into the system and cooled down the temps nicely. The water is back to normal and I drifted yesterday with great success. I know the local areas had been hit hard this weekend but even with that the fishing this morning was still great.
I am very thankful for all your generosity and very thankful for being your guide. Anything we could certainly do for you all please let us know.
PEACE, tight lines               BILL
